Recently, I read that one of the critical things we can do to ensure healthy skin is, at the end of the day, to cleanse it not once but twice. This is recommended to ensure you remove all of the day’s debris–grime from the air, oils that have built up, makeup, etc.–and to prep the skin for its night slumber. Apparently, while we sleep, our bodies repair the damage that has occurred during the day from skin offenders, such as pollution and sun exposure.

So, if cleansing is so important, I figure it’s probably a good idea to find an exceptional cleanser–one that can remove all the makeup without stripping away all our natural oils. To that end, I purchased a jar of Eve Lom’s celebrated cleanser. I had read that it is particularly good at removing makeup and other grime.

It is a balm cleanser with sort of a yellowish hue and a very smooth feel. Think Vaseline without the greasiness. The cleanser comes with instructions on massage techniques that are designed to help push lymphatic fluid from the sinuses, under-eye area, and other spots where it can apparently build up and hang out. The jar also comes with a muslin cloth that you are to use post-massage to fully remove the cleaner and dirt. The cloth is slightly rough, which allows for a gentle exfoliation.

Here is what the jar looks like:

MY REVIEW
So, with all that said, here is my take:
I love the feel of the product. Because it has that wonderful combination of essential oils–clove, Egyptian chamomile, and eucalyptus–you can actually smell the sinus-clearing eucalyptus as you massage the product into your face. It feels divine, and I do believe the massage techniques do help push those lymphatic fluids out.
It also does a fab job of lifting off and removing all the makeup. I wear a fairly heavy foundation topped with face powder, so there is a lot to get off!
After I rinse with the muslin cloth and handfuls of warm water and dry my face, it feels incredibly soft and dewy. I have to say I’m kind of addicted already.
Because it’s fairly pricey, I am trying to be careful to only use as much as I need to get the job done. A small amount seems to get the job done.
I would recommend this product to anyone who wears a fair amount of makeup and wants to be sure to get it all off before bed.
I actually think that it’s a good idea to have maybe two different cleansers on hand to switch between throughout the week. I use a fairly strong Salicylic cleanser every other day because it seems to really keep breakouts at bay.
I give Eve Lom Cleanser 4.5 out of 5 stars as an overall rating.
Price: Expensive at $80 for 3.4 oz. jar
Texture: A smooth, luxurious golden-hued balm
Smell: A tad medicinal with eucalpytus (reminds me of a spa scent, which I love).
How well it cleans: It really gets all the makeup and grime off.

  1. It’s Perfect Image Salicylic Deep Gel Exfoliating Cleanser – Enhanced with Tea Tree Oil & Green Tea Extract (Professional). I buy it on Amazon and it’s $24.95 a bottle. The bottle is small but this stuff is concentrated, so you don’t need a lot. This is the BEST cleanser I have ever used. It seems to make every bump on my face disappear without completely drying me out. I highly recommend this. I think this entire line of skincare is amazing and really well priced.
